Higher resolution videos and images make it easier to detect suspicious activity and recognize finer.
Most Commonly used CCTV cameras are in range of 2,3,4,5 and 8MP(4K).
As a general rule, higher resolution and better image quality cameras tend to be more expensive. A 4 or 5 megapixel camera resolution is usually ideal for most security surveillance and provides you with crisp, clear videos and images. Keep in mind that higher resolution footage requires more hard drive storage space.
At the end of the day, you want to make sure that suspicious actions are easily identifiable whether in day light or low-light conditions, or when you need to zoom in for close-up playback.
You can see by increasing image resolution , not only image quality increases it tends to take more coverage area.

IR or night vision cameras use infrared light to illuminate images in the dark.
We can’t see it, but infrared light is actually all around us. IR cameras detect these invisible infrared wavelengths, enabling the camera to see in the dark. Most IR cameras have a series of IR LEDs (often situated around the lens) that transmit infrared light at night, or whenever the camera switches to night mode.
In Pakistan for Analog CCTV solutions its a common practice to provide IR cameras which start from ideal range of 20 meters(65.6 feet), as it is entry level camera and serves the purpose, but these are not sufficient for general domestic need. As a typical domestic home of 1 Kanal which has a boundary of 90 feet (27.43meters) usually, also if a camera is also mounted on height of approx. 9 -10feet that’s why it is not possible for a camera of 20 meter IR to illuminate properly in case of no or less light. ( it should be noted in above discussion weather conditions such as fog or dust is not accounted which may further effect IR result.
So it is strongly recommended to go for at least 30-40 meter solutions for selecting an CCTV Camera
Common practice for cheap solution providers is to provide old used braded desktop Hard Disks( 100 percent health myth), which on short run gives a small starting cost of a solution but later gives headache to customers by breaking down because after 24/7 read/write operations on hard disks.
On the other hand Surveillance hard drives have been designed for higher workloads, especially given the 24/7 demands of security camera recordings. These hard drives enable you to store video on site and can read or write data faster than regular desktop hard drives while consuming less power and offering more reliability. Some can even support data from up to 64 cameras at a time. They are designed to be easy to install in your NVR or DVR.
